We made our first trip down to the Med 1998 and back in 1999 with our Najad Trawler. Beeing a retired couple we now have started a longer session and left Sweden in 2009. At present we are in Torrevieja, Spain and will continue down to Gibraltar and Morocco. Life down here is just wonderful for us. We stay in the Med. for about 6 months every year and only return back home in the summertime when Spain is too hot and Sweden is just perfect and leave the boat on a long term contract for the summer. The further south the better price !
So far we have passed different ways through Europe three times. For us it is a possibility to explore Europe in a different way . For example we spend one month in Holland. We have seen small villages that we probably never had seen otherwise and we have entered Paris by our own boat and stayed in Port Arsenal , this is a fantastic marina in the very center of Paris. Another exiting thing is to use our bikes and go to a wineyard – something that has been one of most delicate experiences on this trip !
Our choise to go for a trawler has realy opened new possibilities for us by still having comfort and extra beds for friends and children in a boat that can pass most rivers and canals and still be a seaworty boat for costal navigation in the Med.
After five wonderful years in the Med. we have now decided to slowly (i.e. within two years) return to Sweden. However we will also have the boat on the market for sale as we now have bought an apartment in Spain. We have the boat ”hardstanding” in Martigues, very close to the river Rhone and the intension is to start our canaltrip back to Sweden around may 2015.
In august 2015 we returned to Sweden after a final canaltrip through France and Germany.
It took us almost 3500 hrs to build the boat but we got exactly the boat we wanted in terms of layout and equipment. It has never let us down. We had the boat for 18 years and in all and we did about 25000 nm . Two times down to the Med. the last time a trip for 6 years and we finally learned that in order to learn the most of a new place is to stay for longer periods than we ( and most people ) usually do. The boat was sold almost immediatly when we came back is is now in Stockholm.
